Joshua Kimmich and Xavi join forces to inspire Generation Amazing children

FIFA World Cup™ winner Xavi Hernandez teamed up with Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich to deliver an unforgettable training session for children from the Generation Amazing programme in Qatar.

Organised during Bayern's recent winter training camp at Aspire Zone, Doha, the hour-long session included educational activities and a dedicated passing section.

Launched during Qatar's bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup™, Generation Amazing is aiming to positively impact the lives of more than 1 million people through football for development outreach. It's currently active in seven countries – Qatar, Nepal, Pakistan, Jordan, Lebanon, the Philippines and India – and has reached more than 250,000 beneficiaries to date thanks to pitch launches and other programmes.

Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy ambassador Xavi was full of praise for the initiative.

"Generation Amazing helps young people to have fun and learn through football," said Xavi. "It was a pleasure to meet Joshua Kimmich, who is one of the best young players in the world. Everybody enjoyed the session a lot, myself included. It was a big honour."

Xavi continued: "When players like Kimmich, who is a big star, give their time to help Generation Amazing, I think it is fantastic for everyone involved. With so many top teams doing their winter training camps in Doha, this is a great opportunity for the programme to grow further."

As for 23-year-old defender Kimmich, the session was a chance to speak to young people about the importance of positive role models.

"I really enjoyed the Generation Amazing activity. For me, the most important thing in football is to enjoy the sport and have fun. Xavi was a big role model for me – he is a great player and it's a dream come true to meet him."

At the end of the activity Xavi handed Kimmich a Qatar shirt with the number 22 on the back. And with Germany likely to qualify for the next FIFA World Cup™, Generation Amazing participants may well have met one of the stars of the next tournament.
